Diplomatic Desk:
With a view to further strengthening bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and the Netherlands, Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh Joris van Bommel met with Prime Minister’s Defense Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam.
The meeting discussed maritime cooperation between the two countries, implementation of existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and various areas of future cooperation. The discussions focused on shipbuilding industry, port modernization, maritime infrastructure development, export diversification, knowledge and institutional partnerships and security cooperation.
Ambassador Joris van Bommel praised the development and potential of Bangladesh’s maritime sector and said that there is a huge scope for increasing cooperation between the two countries in this sector.
In the meeting, he also informed about the Netherlands Trade Mission to be held in October 2026. The main objective of this trade mission will be to increase cooperation in the shipbuilding, port development, and maritime infrastructure sectors and to create new partnership opportunities between businessmen and related institutions of the two countries.
