Dr. M. A. Quayum pledges to make Dhaka-11 constituency drug, extortion and terrorism free

Staff Correspondent:

Dr. M. A. Quayum, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-nominated parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-11 parliamentary constituency, has expressed deep concern over the rampant spread of drugs in Bhatara and Badda areas. He said that every family is facing a threat due to the invasion of drugs, which is posing a serious risk to future generations.

Dr. Quayum said, “We cannot keep our children locked up in their homes for the rest of their lives. But today, the reign of drugs outside is a terrible reality for society.” He also said that the most tragic thing is that teenage gangs are being used in the drug trade, which is further destabilizing the society.

Explaining the reasons behind teenagers getting involved in drug trade, he said that hunger, lack of playgrounds and the deterioration of the education system are pushing the youth on the wrong path. He also commented that taking repressive measures alone, ignoring these realities, will not provide a permanent solution to the problem.

In this context, Dr. MA Qayyum outlined a two-pronged plan. These include adopting a zero tolerance policy against drug syndicates and godfathers and initiatives to rehabilitate confused teenagers and unemployed youth. He said, “We will not give drugs to the youth, but books, sports opportunities and employment.”

Finally, he expressed a strong commitment that if elected, Dhaka-11 constituency will be made a safe and livable area free from drugs, extortion and terrorism.
