Dr. Halida Hanum Akhtar joins as newly appointed chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society

Dr. Halida Hanum Akhtar, the newly appointed chairman of the Ad Hoc Management Board of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), has officially joined the society’s national headquarters.

On the occasion of joining, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Halida Hanum Akhtar, Vice Chairman of the Board Dr. Tasneem Azim and Treasurer Additional Secretary (Retd.) Md. Rezaul Karim ndc paid a courtesy call on the directors and in-charges of all the departments present at the national headquarters. Other members of the newly formed Ad Hoc Management Board were also present at the time.

The members of the newly formed board are— Md. Afzalur Rahman, Additional Secretary (Retd.); Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed and Dr. Arefin Amal Islam.

On behalf of the society, Secretary General Dr. Kabir M Ashraf Alam NDC and Deputy Secretary General Major Reza Ahmed Chowdhury, PSC, CPP (Retd.) greeted the newly appointed Chairman and other members of the Board with flowers.

After meeting with the directors and in-charge officers, the Chairman exchanged views with representatives of various partner organizations of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – IFRC, ICRC, British Red Cross, American Red Cross, Canadian Red Cross, Turkish Red Crescent, Danish Red Cross, Swedish Red Cross and Swiss Red Cross.

He also exchanged views separately with representatives of Holy Family Medical College and Hospital and Holy Family Nursing Institute.

The Chairman and the newly formed Board members expressed their hope that the humanitarian activities of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society will be stronger, more dynamic and more effective through coordinated initiatives.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reconstituted the Ad Hoc Management Board of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society through a notification issued on December 7, 2025.
