Deputy Head of Mission of Australian High Commission Bangladesh Clinton Pobke met with BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain at BGMEA Complex in Dhaka on Thursday (7 November, 2024). They had discussions on trade opportunities, particularly in boosting Bangladesh’s garment exports to Australia.

Administrator Anwar Hossain expressed his appreciation for Australia’s continued duty-free access for Bangladeshi products, which has greatly supported the country’s export sector. “Australia’s decision to maintain duty-free market access is a significant step in strengthening our economic relationship, and we see immense potential for growth in garment exports,” Anwar Hossain remarked. He highlighted the pivotal role that such initiatives play in fortifying trade ties between the two nations.
The conversation also touched on potential collaborations to promote a circular economy within Bangladesh’s garment sector. A circular economy approach would help address sustainability by focusing on resource conservation, waste reduction, and recycling, aligning with the industry’s increasing emphasis on eco-friendly practices.
In addition, Administrator Hossain expressed an interest in enhancing the skills of Bangladeshi students in fashion design and product development through partnerships with Australia’s leading fashion institutions. By fostering these skills, Bangladesh aims to elevate its workforce’s expertise, ensuring it meets global standards and remains competitive in the international market.
This meeting reflects both nations’ shared vision of bolstering economic ties while contributing to sustainable practices in the global garment industry.
