The current government has implemented 60 significant steps in the last two months since taking office, said Mahdi Amin, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office.

He presented these information at a press conference organized at the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday (April 18, 2026) afternoon. Mahdi Amin said that the government elected by the people under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has successfully completed two months and is playing a strong role in restoring democracy and establishing the rights of the people.
He claimed that this progress of the government after a long period of dictatorship is taking the country forward on a new path. Referring to the victory achieved in the February 12 national elections as the revival of democracy, he said that it has been appreciated in domestic and foreign circles.
Highlighting various initiatives of the government at the press conference, the spokesperson said,
More than 37,000 families are being provided with monthly assistance of Tk 2,500 under the ‘Family Card’ program for women’s empowerment.
Farmers’ cards have been introduced for farmers and loans of 1.2 million small farmers have been waived.
20,000 kilometers of river and canal excavation and re-excavation activities have been started.
Renewable energy has been added to the national grid and a target of 10,000 megawatts of electricity generation has been set by 2030.
He further said that initiatives have been taken to control commodity prices, pay honorariums to religious leaders, introduce expatriate cards, reduce Hajj costs and expand the labor market abroad.
As a step in the education and health sector, the government has announced the recruitment of 100,000 health workers and the cancellation of student admission fees. In addition, a provision has been made for collateral-free bank guarantees for higher education abroad.
Regarding the economy, Mahdi Amin said that a strategic plan is being taken to develop the country into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034 and new decisions have been taken to facilitate foreign investment.
He further said that the Prime Minister is staying at his residence to reduce state expenditure and has limited VVIP facilities. The decision not to accept duty-free cars and government plots for ministers has also been implemented.
The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary and other officials of the Press Wing were present at the press conference.
Mahdi Amin said the government will counter propaganda through information-based activities and called on the opposition to play a constructive role. He expressed hope that it will be possible to build a prosperous Bangladesh by implementing the promises of the manifesto.
