Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has given special instructions to those concerned to maintain normal market conditions in the hilly areas on the occasion of Ramadan. He said that commodity prices should be kept under control during the month of Ramadan and no violence by middlemen or hawkers will be tolerated. He instructed the district council members to be vigilant to take strict legal action against those involved in destabilizing market prices. He also emphasized the creation of an effective ‘market fund’ for traders.
The minister said these things to the concerned when the members of the district council led by the Chairman of the Bandarban Hill District Council, Professor Thanjama Lusai, came to meet him at the Rangamati Circuit House on Friday (February 27, 2026).
Dipen Dewan said that the government is working to implement a special development target of 180 days. He said that priority will be given to areas that have been deprived of development for a long time and no discrimination will be allowed in the balanced development of the hills.
Regarding the different ethnic groups of Bandarban, the minister said that all 11 ethnic groups in the hills, including Bam, Pankhoya, and Kheyang, are equal to the government. No one will be left behind, but all communities will be involved in the mainstream development work of the country.
Later, in a meeting with the Rangamati District Primary Education Officer, the minister reiterated the government’s commitment to spreading modern education in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. He directed the concerned officials to quickly prepare a list of all the vacant posts in the Primary Education Office and fill them systematically.
The minister also said that I am determined to fulfill the responsibility given to me for the welfare of the hill people. Everyone must work unitedly, forgetting the calculation of profit and loss for the sake of the country.
