Chief Adviser highly praises CID and assures future cooperation

On Wednesday (January 7, 2026), a special delegation led by Additional IGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police, Mr. Md. Chibgat Ullah, BPM, PPM, met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

During the meeting, the Chief Adviser highly praised the role of CID in exhuming the unidentified bodies of the martyrs of the July Uprising at Rayerbazar Cemetery, collecting DNA samples and identifying them. He said that this activity is a historic and exemplary initiative in maintaining law and order, uncovering the truth and establishing justice in the country.

The Chief Advisor further said that the initiative to collect DNA samples from the bodies of 114 martyrs buried as unclaimed in Rayerbazar and identify them through forensic testing following international standards is an important step towards justice for the families of the missing. He expressed his strong hope that such work will also inspire other organizations and concerned parties.

He further said that the state will continue to provide all kinds of cooperation to enhance the forensic capacity and capacity of the CID, use of modern technology, and support professionalism in autopsy and DNA profiling. He mentioned that this forensic activity of the CID will be considered a milestone in protecting human rights in the country, finding missing persons and establishing justice.

During the meeting, CID Chief Mr. Md. Chibgat Ullah, BPM, PPM informed the Chief Advisor that a total of 114 unidentified bodies have been exhumed, autopsied and DNA sample collected from December 7 to December 27, 2025, by setting up a temporary morgue at Rayerbazar Cemetery under the supervision of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and with the overall cooperation of the Ministries of Home Affairs and Health.

He said that so far, 9 families have provided DNA samples in search of missing relatives, out of which the identity of 8 martyrs has been confirmed through DNA profiling. All of the identified martyrs were killed by bullet wounds. The forensic capacity of the CID has been significantly increased by setting up a forensic lab on the spot and conducting sample collection and analysis.

The CID Chief further said that the entire process has been completed following the Minnesota protocol under the guidance of internationally recognized forensic experts to ensure transparency, impartiality and international standards of the process. As a result, it has been possible to preserve the necessary forensic evidence for future judicial and investigative activities.

The Chief Advisor said that this initiative proves that the truth can never be suppressed. The names and identities of the deceased will be restored and their sacrifice will be remembered forever in the history of the nation. He referred to this activity as the end of the long wait of the families of the missing and a reflection of the moral responsibility of the state.

In addition to the CID, forensic expert doctors from various medical colleges including Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), learned executive magistrates of Dhaka district, July Shaheed Smriti Foundation and various other organizations and individuals have actively participated and cooperated in this sensitive and important activity. CID Chief Mr. Md. Chibgat Ullah, BPM, PPM expressed sincere gratitude to all these organizations and individuals.

At the end of the meeting, the CID chief and his delegation expressed their sincere thanks to the chief advisor and expressed their determination to perform their duties more effectively and professionally in the future with the cooperation of the government.
