The Honorable Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, formally inaugurated the ‘Army Chief Selection Board-2025’ as the chief guest today (Sunday, July 20, 2025) at the Army Headquarters. In this promotion board of the 1st phase, eligible officers of the rank of Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel of the Bangladesh Army will be considered for subsequent promotions.
In his valuable speech at the promotion board, the Honorable Chief Adviser at the beginning remembered all the martyrs, war wounded and brave freedom fighters who participated in the great war of independence, especially the martyrs of the armed forces and the army, including all the brave soldiers, whose sacrifices the nation will forever remember with gratitude. In addition, he respectfully remembered all the wounded and martyred army members while performing their duties in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. At the same time, he respectfully remembered all the student masses who were martyred and injured in the July 2024 mass uprising.
The Honorable Chief Advisor instructed the members of the Selection Board to emphasize the professional skills, leadership qualities, standards of discipline, honesty, trustworthiness and loyalty and above all, suitability for employment of the officers for promotion. He also commented that only honest, ethical, professional and leadership qualities officers deserve higher promotions. Moreover, he instructed to select for promotion all the officers who have succeeded in providing competent leadership at different levels of military life above political ideology. He said that the Bangladesh Army, in addition to fulfilling its responsibilities to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country, is also making an important contribution in supporting the civil administration in maintaining internal peace and order, stability and dealing with disasters. At present, the army members have been fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to them to support the civil administration for some time. He expressed his sincere gratitude to all the members of the army, starting from the army chief, for the sacrifice of the Bangladesh Army in the country’s needs.
Upon reaching the venue, the Honorable Chief Advisor was welcomed by Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, SBP, OSP, SGP, PSC, Special Assistant to the Honorable Chief Advisor on Defense and National Integration Development and Chief of General Staff. The Army Chief expressed his gratitude and thanks to the Honorable Chief Advisor for attending and inaugurating the Election Board despite his busy schedule. Senior military and civilian officials were present at the inauguration ceremony of the Election Board by the Army Chief. After the ceremony, the Honorable Chief Advisor participated in a photo session with the army officers present and recorded his comments in the visitor’s book.
