Chief Adviser directs to strengthen cyber security ahead of elections

The Chairman of the National Cyber ​​Security Council, Honorable Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, has directed the National Cyber ​​Security Agency to ensure all types of cyber security ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections and referendum.

He gave this instruction at the meeting of the National Cyber ​​Security Council held today (December 28, 2025) at the State Guest House Jamuna under the chairmanship of the Chief Adviser.

The Chief Adviser said, “Focusing on the upcoming elections, we need to increase our information technology capacity and strictly deal with all types of cyber crimes.”

He said that the government is trying to bring all types of citizen services to the online platform. Already, many services are being provided online in the country and abroad. To keep these services secure and uninterrupted, it is essential to strengthen cyber security.

The Chief Adviser directed the concerned to consider the sectors of citizen services with special importance.

He said, “Cyber ​​security agencies, including those that will adopt cyber security measures, will have to update their software and hardware regularly. In addition, the manpower associated with these systems will also have to be made more efficient.”

He also said that the institutions and the concerned manpower should be brought under a rating system, so that the actual evaluation of the cyber security of the concerned institutions becomes easier.

The Chief Advisor also directed the National Cyber ​​Security Agency to play an effective role along with the judiciary in ensuring that no one gets away with committing any crime in the financial sector.

At the meeting, Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, said that 35 institutions have already been listed as critical information infrastructure. He suggested including some more institutions in this list.

He also stressed the importance of coordination between the National Cyber ​​Security Agency and the BTRC to prevent rumors, misinformation, disinformation and other cyber crimes in the upcoming elections.

In the meeting, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H. Mansur said that various steps have already been taken to further strengthen the cyber security of the banking sector and some more activities are in process.

He also appreciated the initiative of forming a Sectoral Cert (CERT).

Member Secretary of the National Cyber ​​Security Council and Director General of the National Cyber ​​Security Agency Dr. Md. Tayyab Rahman, through a PowerPoint presentation, presented in detail the activities and future work plans of the agency, as well as the “Cyber ​​Incident Reporting and Response System” developed for receiving and processing complaints of crimes committed in the cyberspace.

Among others, Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Information and Communication Technology Secretary Sheesh Haider Chowdhury, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam and National Board of Revenue Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan.

After the enactment of the Cyber ​​Security Ordinance 2025 on May 21, the National Cyber ​​Security Council was formed on August 26 to ensure cyber security of various state institutions and citizens under this amended ordinance.

This 25-member council is headed by the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government.
