Chief Adviser Directs Budget Formulation Prioritizing Quality Education and Self-Reliance: Press Secretary

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has emphasized reducing reliance on unnecessary foreign loans and implementing more development projects through domestic financing while reviewing the revised budget set to take effect from February 1.

He issued the directive during the weekly meeting of the Advisory Council held on Wednesday (24 December 2025) at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, where Professor Yunus presided over the meeting.

Briefing journalists at the Foreign Service Academy later in the afternoon, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that while providing guidance on the revised budget, the Chief Adviser stressed the optimal utilization of domestic resources. He noted that reducing dependence on unnecessary foreign borrowing and prioritizing domestically financed projects would help Bangladesh move towards greater self-reliance.

The Press Secretary further stated that the Chief Adviser placed special emphasis on the education sector, particularly on improving the quality of education. In the past, greater focus had been placed on expanding educational institutions, which led to a noticeable decline in educational quality, especially during the previous authoritarian period, he said.

In the current context, Professor Yunus has instructed that improving the quality of education be given the highest priority, alongside undertaking necessary reforms and effective measures, the Press Secretary added.
