Canada has expressed interest in further expanding cooperation in Bangladesh’s food security, agriculture and agro-based industries. To this end, Diedrah Kelly, Executive Director of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agrifood Office (IPAAO), recently visited Bangladesh.
During the visit held on June 16 and 17, she participated in several important meetings with senior officials of the Bangladesh government and representatives of the private sector. The visit, organized by the Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh, discussed various issues of mutual cooperation including agriculture, food security, trade and investment.

During the visit, Diedrah Kelly met with Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Aminur Rashid, Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Rafiqul I. Mohammad, Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce Md. Ataur Rahman Khan ndc and Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Abdur Rahim.
He also exchanged views with various stakeholders from the private sector, including senior representatives of the Feed Industries Association of Bangladesh (FIAB). The meetings discussed strengthening Canada-Bangladesh cooperation in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, creating new partnership opportunities, and increasing trade and investment to build sustainable and resilient food and feed systems.

The Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh said that Canada has long been a reliable partner of Bangladesh in ensuring food security. The country has been playing a significant role in strengthening Bangladesh’s food security through the supply of wheat, pulses, oilseeds and fertilizers.
Canada expressed its hope to continue working closely in the future to promote sustainable development, trade expansion and investment in Bangladesh’s agriculture and food sectors.
