Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) held a seminar on Environmental Impact of Man-Made Earthquakes and Opportunities and Activities for Forestry Graduates. The seminar was held on Thursday (November 7, 2024) at 11 am in the old auditorium of the university organized by the Faculty of Forestry and Environment.
BSMRAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. was present as the chief guest in this important seminar. G.K.M. Mostafizur Rahman. The main speaker of the seminar was Professor and Head of Health Informatics Technology Department of Sylhet North East Medical College and Hospital. Md. Rahimullah Mia. Dean of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment presided over the ceremony. Md Main Uddin Mia. The teachers and students of the Faculty of Forestry and Environment were present in this seminar.

In the discussion, the Vice-Chancellor said in the chief guest’s speech that Bangladesh is an earthquake-prone region according to its geological and land structure. However, man-made earthquakes are caused by the lack of awareness of people. This researcher and scientist believes that this seminar will be useful and effective if the students have a correct understanding of how and why man-made earthquakes occur from the discussion of this seminar and later apply it in real life and participate in public awareness activities.
On the other hand, the main speaker. Rahimullah said that the influence of human activities was behind all the earthquakes that have occurred in the country and abroad for the past several years and highlighted the proven statistics in his discussion. However, he mentioned in his science-based discussion that this earthquake does not only occur on the ground, but also occurs in the human body (such as epilepsy). A recent study published in Seismological Resource Letters says that 108 man-made earthquakes occurred in 108 places in the decade since 2017, most of which have been attributed to Android mobiles, satellites, construction of large structures, nuclear explosions, oil and gas extraction, artificial reservoirs, mining, etc. is
