British High Commissioner Sarah Cook pays courtesy call on BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cook paid a courtesy call on BNP Chairman Mr. Tarique Rahman at the BNP Chairman’s office in Gulshan today, Saturday (17 January 2026).

During the meeting, British High Commissioner Sarah Cook reiterated the UK’s long-standing support and encouragement for holding free, fair, credible and peaceful elections in Bangladesh. She stressed the importance of strengthening the democratic process and political stability.

At the time, she expressed deep shock and condolences on the passing of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the UK Government to the bereaved family.
