Home and Agriculture Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that the Bangladesh-India border situation is now fairly normal. There is no tension there. The Indian side is no longer building any barbed wire fence. The status quo now prevails on the border. There is a meeting of BGB and BSF at the Director General level next month. The issue will be raised there. Moreover, efforts are being made to resolve the unequal agreements between the two countries regarding the border by reviewing them. A letter is also being sent to the concerned persons from the Home Ministry in this regard.
The advisor made these remarks at the Mymensingh City Corporation auditorium on Tuesday (January 14, 2025) afternoon, while addressing a meeting as the chief guest with officials of the Mymensingh Division of various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Home Affairs, including the Armed Forces, and officials of the Mymensingh region of various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Agriculture.

In response to journalists’ questions about the fertilizer crisis, the advisor said that there is no fertilizer crisis in the country. If anyone creates an artificial fertilizer crisis, appropriate legal action will be taken against them with the help of the administration and police. He said that the dealerships of dealers who create an artificial fertilizer crisis will be canceled. They will not be given any concessions under any circumstances. He also said that farmers are the lifeblood of our economy. The Ministry of Agriculture has taken steps to ensure that they get fertilizer and seeds at a fair price and at the right time.
Earlier in the exchange of views, the Home Affairs Advisor said that those concerned should be vigilant and alert to prevent fires and other accidents in KPI establishments and other important government institutions. Regular drills should be held there to prevent fires. He said that unnecessary decorations should be stopped in government institutions. Because, the risk of fire accidents increases due to interior design at times.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that intelligence agencies should strengthen their activities by clearing the bad reputation of the past. The Advisor said that maximum security of religious minorities should be ensured. However, fascists cannot be given any concessions under any circumstances. At this time, the Advisor gave necessary instructions to those concerned to ensure the security of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.
The Home Affairs and Agriculture Advisor said that due to the construction of buildings everywhere, the amount of agricultural land is decreasing day by day. That is why the government is going to formulate the ‘Agricultural Land Protection Act’. He said that it is extremely important to take future plans for food security. There is no storage facility for vegetables in our country. Therefore, it is being considered whether small stores or storage facilities can be set up to store various types of vegetables including cauliflower, turnip, carrot. The advisor said that the government always welcomes innovative initiatives that are beneficial to the people. The advisor also commented that there will be no shortage of funds from the government to implement them.
The meeting, chaired by Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner Md. Mokhtar Ahmed, was attended by officials from the armed forces, all police units under the Mymensingh Range, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB), Ansar and Village Defense Force, Prisons Department, Fire Service and Civil Defense Department, Immigration and Passport Department, Narcotics Control Department and various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Agriculture in Mymensingh region. Among others present at the event were DIG of Mymensingh Range of Police Dr. Md. Ashrafur Rahman, Regional Director of Department of Agricultural Extension Mymensingh Dr. Salma Laiju, Deputy Commissioner Mufidul Alam, Superintendent of Police Kazi Akhtar ul Alam and others.
Later, the advisor visited the Bangladesh Atomic Agriculture Research Institute (BINA) located on the premises of Bangladesh Agricultural University.
