Bangladesh Navy ship ‘BNS Somudra Avijan’ left Chittagong port today, Tuesday (April 8, 2025) carrying relief, emergency medical supplies and other humanitarian aid for Myanmar, which was recently hit by a powerful earthquake.

The ship, led by Captain Mohammad Arif Hossain, set out for Myanmar with about 120 metric tons of relief. On the eve of the departure of the relief ship, Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan inspected the activities undertaken to send relief supplies and provided necessary guidance to the members of the armed forces on the way.

The ship is expected to arrive at Yangon port in Myanmar on April 11, 2025. There, the relief supplies will be formally handed over to the Myanmar government delegation from Bangladesh.

This assistance program is being implemented under the patronage and overall supervision of the Armed Forces Division, under the direction of the Honorable Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The 120 tons of relief materials received with the cooperation of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Armed Forces, Army Welfare Organization and Red Crescent include 77 metric tons of dry food, more than 09 tons of tents and usable clothes, 29 metric tons of pure drinking water, 04 metric tons of hygiene kits and about 01 ton of essential medical supplies.
