If the BNP is able to form the government, an export processing zone (EPZ) will be built around the Demra-Jatrabari, i.e. the closed jute mill area, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has announced.
He made this announcement at an election road meeting organized on Shaheed Faruk Road in Jatrabari in the capital on Monday (February 9). The road meeting was organized in support of BNP candidate for Dhaka-5 constituency Nabi Ullah Nabi.

Tarique Rahman said that many jute mills in the Demra-Jatrabari area have been closed for a long time. Reviving these abandoned industrial areas and building EPZs will create huge employment opportunities and change the economic landscape of the area.

At one stage of his speech, he formally handed over the party symbol to Nabi Ullah Nabi, the candidate for the paddy sheesh of Dhaka-5 constituency, a son of the area and a tested leader.

At that time, the BNP chairman said that experienced leadership is needed to free the country from the corruption that has been going on in the country for the past 16 years. “If the country has to be freed from this corruption, then only BNP can do it. Because BNP has experience in running the state,” he said.
Tarique Rahman also said that if BNP comes to power, industrialization, employment and improving the living standards of the people will be given top priority.
A large number of locals, including leaders and activists of local BNP and its affiliates, were present at the road meeting.
