The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a 7-day mourning for the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this at a press conference at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday (December 30, 2025) morning.
He said, “The mother of democracy, the undisputed leader in restoring democracy that has been repeatedly lost; an uncompromising legendary leader in protecting people’s civil liberties, people’s speech, and individual freedom, Begum Khaleda Zia, the national leader, passed away at Evercare Hospital in the capital at 6 am today.”
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, “Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP expresses deep shock and sorrow over this heartbreaking and touching death.
I request the people of the country, leaders and activists of all levels of the party, various parties and professional organizations to pray for the eternal peace of the leader.’
He also said, ‘The leader Begum Khaleda Zia is no longer with us. BNP will observe a seven-day mourning period on her death. Black flags will be hoisted in all offices of the country, including the central office, for seven days.
Leaders and activists of all levels of the party will wear black badges for these seven days. A seven-day Quran Khatam and Doa Mahfil will be held in each party office. Condolences books will be opened centrally at the Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, the central office in Noypaltan and the district offices. Dignitaries and leaders of various political parties will write and sign comments there.
