Biden welcomes further US-Bangladesh engagement: White House

Online Desk:

US President Joseph R Biden and Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus have affirmed the close partnership between Washington and Dhaka, which is rooted in shared democratic values and strong people-to-people ties.

US president Joe Biden held a rare one-on-one meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the margin of the UNGA on Tuesday (24 September, 2024) at the UN headquarters in New York.

President Biden expressed US government’s “full support” to Bangladesh and the Professor Yunus-led Interim Government during the meeting.

Professor Yunus apprised him about how the students rose against the tyranny of the previous government and gave their lives to create this opportunity to rebuild Bangladesh.

Professor Yunus stressed that his government must succeed in rebuilding the country and would need US cooperation.

President Biden said if the students could do so much sacrifice for their country, they too should do more.

Professor Yunus handed a copy of the The Art of Triumph, a book on wall paintings drawn by the students and young students during the revolution, to President Biden during the meeting.

This is the first time in the history of Bangladesh the US President has met the head of the Bangladesh government on the sidelines UNGA.
