BGMEA President meets Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury

A delegation led by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan met Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury on Wednesday (July 2, 2025). The meeting was attended by Vice President Mizanur Rahman, Md. Shihab Uddoza Chowdhury and Member Md. Kamal Uddin.

The meeting discussed the current challenges of the garment industry, bank and NBR-related issues, gas crisis, renewable energy, efficiency of Chittagong Port, trade license, ERC-IRC renewal complications and harassment by RAJUK under DAP.

There was a demand to increase the grace period from 3 months to 6 months in the loan classification policy of Bangladesh Bank. The BGMEA President requested to reconsider it as it was not timely to reduce cash assistance.

He recommended considering tax at source at the rate of 1% as the final tax liability and demanded the re-introduction of the pre-shipment credit scheme. In addition, he proposed the formation of a forced fund against exports.

The NBR was urged to formulate industry-friendly policies to simplify customs procedures and reduce lead time. Discussions were also held on connecting Bhola gas to the national grid and increasing LNG imports to address the gas crisis.

Proposals for solar power projects on private land and canals on PPP basis and interest in building housing, hospitals, and schools for workers in Gazipur-Ashulia were expressed.

In the meeting, BGMEA leaders requested the resumption of the Garment Village project in Munshiganj and the allocation of land for the formation of industrial zones for small and medium factories in Chittagong.

Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury said that the government knows the importance of the garment industry and will provide all possible support to this industry.
