Mr. Shovon Islam is one of the well-known and tested names in the garment sector of Bangladesh, who is serving as the Managing Director of Sparrow Group. He is contesting from the Sammilito Parishad panel in the upcoming BGMEA elections 2025-27.
Shovon Islam has been contributing to the garment industry of Bangladesh for a long time as a visionary, sophisticated and pragmatic industry leader. Despite the global economic instability, labor market challenges and pressure of sustainable production in the last decade, he has stabilized and taken Sparrow Group forward through strategic decisions and action plans.

Shovon Islam’s role in worker welfare, incorporation of modern technology and market diversification is appreciated in the garment industry. He believes that the success of the industry is not only based on product exports, but is based on planned management, human resource development and transparent leadership. According to him, the future of the garment industry will be determined on the basis of the collective participation and responsibility of owners, workers and officials.
Although the current BGMEA election campaign is only about the future of the owners, Shovon Islam believes that the future of workers and employees should also be discussed with equal importance. He said,
“The garment industry of Bangladesh has been developed through the collective efforts of owners, workers, mid-level employees and the textile family. Students, teachers, officials, assistants are all equally important in this industry.”
He also mentioned that in the last few years, a distance has been created between the owners and workers. Many workers and employees are leaning towards different associations due to their different opinions, which is creating obstacles in the way of unity and sustainable development of the industry. It is important to remove this division, and the BGMEA needs to establish more direct and humane communication with the workers and employees.
Shovon Islam has been active in the textile and garment industry for more than 20 years in his professional life. Under his leadership, Sparrow Apparel has earned the trust of its customers by providing high-quality woven products in the competitive global market.
As an international professional, he completed his MBA from Stanford University and worked as a software engineer at Hewlett Packard for 24 years. His multinational experience and technology-based approach have made him a modern, innovative and humane industry leader.
Shovon Islam believes that the BGMEA elections should be held with the interests and dignity of all owners, workers and employees in mind. Let this election be the beginning of a humane, inclusive and sustainable textile future.
“We want this election to not only reflect the interests of the owners, but also be responsible for the rights, dignity and progress of workers, employees and the future textile generation.” — Shovon Islam
