Begum Khaleda Zia’s granddaughter Jaima Rahman receives posthumous ‘Best Indomitable Woman’ award

Former Prime Minister and late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been posthumously awarded the ‘Best Indomitable Woman’ award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to women’s education and the advancement of democracy.

On Sunday (March 8), at a function organized at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on the occasion of International Women’s Day, President Md. Begum Khaleda Zia’s granddaughter Barrister Jaima Rahman received the award from the hands of President Md. Shahabuddin.

It was informed at the function that 5 out of 39 women from eight departments have been specially awarded in recognition of their outstanding contribution and indomitable spirit in various fields of the country. Among them, awards were presented to Babita Khatun of Khulna, Shamla Begum of Chittagong, Nurbanu Kabir of Rangpur, Nurun Nahar Akhter of Mymensingh and Afroza Yasmin of Dhaka.

In addition, awards were given to more women by division. Arifa Begum, Marufa Akhter, Nasrin Akhter, Mukta Akhter and Afroza Yasmin from Dhaka division; Lata Khatun, Riju Tamanna, Rasheda Begum, Razia Khatun and Sumaiya Islam from Rajshahi division; Asma Akhter Kona, Tajkera Chowdhury, Bilkis Begum and Shamla Begum from Chittagong division received awards.

Kulsuma Begum, Amina Begum, Rahima Begum, Kanchan Begum and Rifat Ara Rifa from Sylhet division; Tarana Tabachchum, Babita Khatun, Lutfun Nesa Begum, Sharifa Yasmin and Razia Khatun from Khulna Division; Farida Parvin, Rikta Banu, Rasheda Begum, Parvin Akhter and Khandaker Abida Sultana Ria from Rangpur Division received the award.

In addition, Nilufa Yasmin, Nahid Rumana Mitu, Delwara Begum, Salma Akhter and Rita Brahma from Barisal Division and Nurun Nahar Begum, Umme Rafiba Jahan, Hasna Hena Bari, Nasrin Begum and Tahmida from Mymensingh Division received the award.

Organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, this award is given with the aim of increasing the participation of women in the social, economic and political fields of the country and highlighting their contribution at the national level. Those concerned believe that such recognition highlights the stories of women’s struggle, leadership, and success to society and inspires future generations.
