The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors election is being held today (June 7). Voting began at 10 am at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, the capital, and will continue until 4 pm.
The election atmosphere was relatively calm and unhurried from the beginning. The first vote was cast just 35 minutes after the start of voting.
A large presence of law enforcement agencies was observed around the polling station. Movement in the stadium area has also been restricted for security reasons. Councilor and director candidates from various districts and divisions started arriving in Mirpur since morning.
It is learnt that almost half of the board of directors members have already been elected unopposed in this election. Those elected unopposed in the district and divisional quotas include Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury of Sylhet division, Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto of Bogra and Mirza Faisal Amin of Thakurgaon. Said Bin Zaman and SM Abdullah Al Fuad have been elected from Dhaka division.
Shafiqul Alam, Shantanu Islam and Abdus Salam are contesting in Khulna division – 2 people will be elected from here. Mizanur Rahman and Muntasir Alam Chowdhury are contesting in Barishal division, where 1 person will be elected.
In addition, Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir has already been elected as a director as a single candidate from Category-3.
After the withdrawal of nominations in Dhaka club category, 16 candidates are still in the fray. The list includes – Tamim Iqbal (Old DOHS), Fahim Sinha (Abahani), Masuduzzaman (Mohammedan), Rafiqul Islam Babu, Israfil Khasru, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Shanian Tanim and many others.
Among them, Tamim Iqbal, Masuduzzaman, Rafiqul Islam Babu, Israfil Khasru, Saeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Shahnian Tanim, Fahim Sinha, Asif Rabbani and some other candidates are leading the race to become the director.
