BARD-JICA Host Joint Seminar on Women in Local Government in Bangladesh

On 1 March 2025, the BARD-JICA Joint Seminar on Women in Local Government in Bangladesh was held focusing on empowering women in governance.

The seminar highlighted key research findings on Women Development Forum (WDF) and explored challenges, opportunities, and policy interventions to enhance women’s leadership amid local government reforms.

Distinguished speakers, including Dr. Tofail Ahmed, Chairman, Local Government Reform Commission (LGRC), Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Head of Electoral System Reform Commission, and Ms. Mashuda Khatun, LGRC Member shared insights on strengthening women’s participation.

Chaired by Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam (RDCD Secretary), the event featured a keynote by Dr. Syeda Lasna Kabir and remarks from JICA Chief Representative Mr. ICHIGUCHI Tomohide.

An engaging discussion, moderated by Mr. Saif Uddin Ahmed (BARD DG), fostered valuable ideas for advancing women’s leadership.
