Minister for Science and Technology and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam presided over an important session of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), which is a reflection of Bangladesh’s growing leadership at the regional level.
Representatives of 53 member countries participated in the session held in Bangkok.
High-level policy discussions and exchange of views were held in the session to advance inclusive and sustainable development.
Bangladesh’s statement at the session reiterated its strong commitment to the theme of “Leaving No One Behind”. In addition, various initiatives of the Bangladesh government to strengthen social protection and inclusive development, such as the distribution of family cards and farmers’ cards, were highlighted.
During the break of the session, the Minister held a bilateral meeting with the delegation of Kazakhstan. The meeting discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, e-governance, digital transformation and innovation. Both sides reiterated their mutual support for digital initiatives for sustainable development.
Fakir Mahbub Anam also participated in a high-level side event titled “Advancing Trusted AI in Asia and the Pacific: From National Leadership to Regional Solutions”, where Bangladesh’s commitment to the responsible and trustworthy use of artificial intelligence was highlighted.
It is worth noting that the 82nd session of ESCAP is being held in Bangkok from 20-24 April with the theme “Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific”.
