Bangladesh has signed a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the U.S.-based company, Argent LNG, to boost its energy imports. Under the agreement, Bangladesh will import 5 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually from the United States.
On Friday, January 24, Argent LNG announced the agreement in an official statement. This marks the first major LNG supply deal signed with the U.S. since Donald Trump became President, highlighting a new milestone in the bilateral relationship.
Ashiq Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), remarked, “This agreement will ensure a reliable and uninterrupted energy supply for Bangladesh’s industrial sector. Additionally, it will strengthen our strategic partnership with the United States.”
The agreement is expected to secure Bangladesh’s energy stability while further deepening the economic and trade ties between the two nations.
