Indonesian Ambassador to Bangladesh Listiwati paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, MP, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (March 11, 2026).
During the meeting, the Ambassador congratulated the State Minister on assuming office and conveyed the Indonesian Government’s sincere greetings and best wishes to the newly elected government of Bangladesh.
Welcoming the Ambassador, the State Minister said that Bangladesh is committed to further strengthening the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Indonesia. Both sides noted that next year will mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will create an important opportunity to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
The meeting discussed issues of expanding cooperation in various fields, including trade and investment, energy, connectivity, and increasing people-to-people contacts. The two sides also stressed the importance of expeditiously concluding the ongoing negotiations on the Bangladesh-Indonesia Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA).
At the same time, the State Minister sought Indonesia’s support in Bangladesh’s efforts to become a sectoral dialogue partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. He also called for continued support for Bangladesh’s candidacy in various international forums, especially the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (2026-2027).
At the end of the meeting, both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthening Bangladesh-Indonesia relations for mutual benefit.
