On April 20, 2026, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman held an important meeting with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.

The meeting saw a wide-ranging discussion on various issues including political, economic and development cooperation. In particular, important issues such as trade and investment, Indo-Pacific cooperation, migration, skill development, labor standards and the Rohingya crisis received attention.

The two sides discussed the post-graduation situation of Bangladesh from Least Developed Country (LDC) and highlighted the importance of maintaining preferential market access. In addition, the start of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and an Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) was welcomed.
In addition, the Bangladesh-EU New Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) was mentioned as an important platform for a future-oriented partnership.

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir was also present at the meeting.
