Bangladesh-Maldives bilateral talks on education and skill development

High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Maldives Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam paid a courtesy call on Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed, Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development of Maldives. The meeting, held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, discussed in detail the opportunities to further strengthen the long-standing education cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions exchanged views on various possibilities for enhancing new cooperation in the fields of higher education, technical education, skill development and human resource development. Minister Dr. Ali Haider Ahmed appreciated the progress of Bangladesh’s education sector and highlighted several areas of cooperation. Notable among these are organizing education fairs and exhibitions to showcase higher education opportunities in Bangladesh for Maldivian students, setting up branches of Bangladeshi universities in Maldives, increasing internship opportunities in Bangladesh for Maldivian medical students and receiving experience and training from Bangladesh in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

High Commissioner Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam mentioned that Bangladesh has the potential to become a regional hub for higher education and Bangladesh is ready to work together with Maldives on the basis of mutual trust and common interests to achieve this goal. He further said that Bangladesh’s cooperation with Maldives’ experience in hospitality and tourism management can be beneficial for both the countries.

During the meeting, the two sides emphasized on taking practical steps to further expand cooperation in education, research and skill development. In the meeting, which ended in a friendly atmosphere, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the Bangladesh-Maldives partnership through higher education, skill development initiatives and people-to-people ties.
