The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia celebrated Independence and National Day 2025 with due dignity and great enthusiasm. The ceremony officially began with the hoisting of the national flag at 9:30 am on Wednesday (March 26, 2025). High Commissioner Md. Shamim Ahsan hoisted the national flag. The High Commissioner’s wife, Mrs. Pandora Chowdhury, along with a large number of prominent leaders of political and socio-cultural organizations of the Bangladesh community living in Malaysia, journalists and officials and employees of the High Commission were present at the time of hoisting the flag.

After the hoisting of the flag, a discussion meeting was held. At the beginning of the discussion, prayers were offered for the forgiveness of the souls of the brave martyrs of the Great Liberation War and the July-August student uprising. The message of the President, the Chief Advisor and the Foreign Advisor were read out at the event and a documentary film made on the Great Liberation War and the July-August Uprising was screened.

In his speech, the High Commissioner paid deep respect to the memory of all the martyrs of the Great Liberation War of ’71 and the July-August Uprising of ’24 and remembered the contribution of the brave warriors with gratitude.
Expressing his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Bangladeshis living abroad on the great Independence Day, he said that the mass uprising of July-August ’24 was to give full shape to the aspirations with which the Great Liberation War was fought. He called on everyone to work together to give full shape to the aspirations of the martyrs and warriors of ’71 and ’24.

Shamim Ahsan said that Nobel laureate Professor Dr. The interim government of Bangladesh led by Muhammad Yunus is firmly committed to rebuilding Bangladesh by ensuring good governance through bringing transformative reforms in important sectors. The High Commission is working sincerely as per the government’s instructions.

Noting that there are excellent bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia, the High Commissioner said that in addition to the labor market, there is a bilateral trade of about four billion dollars between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
Immediately after the swearing-in of the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus after the July-August coup, Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Anwar Ibrahim called the Chief Advisor to congratulate him and visited Bangladesh as the first head of government. The High Commissioner expressed hope that Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus will visit Malaysia in the near future.

He also said that this expatriate-friendly government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus has undertaken multi-dimensional activities for the welfare of the expatriates. The Bangladesh High Commission is fulfilling its responsibility with utmost sincerity in providing all kinds of welfare services including passport-visa, consular services, employment and other services to the expatriates.
