International Desk:

As part of the celebration of Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day-2026, the Bangladesh Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam, organized a diplomatic reception at a local hotel in the city on Thursday (March 26, 2026). Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Manh Cuong was present as the chief guest. More than a hundred guests, including ambassadors of various embassies in Hanoi, representatives of international organizations, high-ranking officials of Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local business representatives, and expatriate Bangladeshis living in Hanoi, were present. The program began with the rendition of the national anthems of Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Vietnam Mohammad Lutfar Rahman delivered the welcome speech at the program. At the beginning of his speech, he paid deep respect to the martyr President Ziaur Rahman, who declared the independence of Bangladesh, and to the millions of brave martyrs, countless mothers and sisters who lost their dignity, and all the brave freedom fighters who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great independence.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s significant achievements in various fields including poverty alleviation, employment generation, development in agriculture, education and health, and increasing foreign investment, Ambassador Rahman said, “Bangladesh is currently the 35th largest economy in the world. The government led by Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working tirelessly to elevate the country to the ranks of a non-discriminatory, poverty-free, modern and prosperous developed country in the near future. And I seek sincere cooperation from the international community in this great progress of Bangladesh.”

Noting that Bangladesh has nominated Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman for the election as the President of the upcoming 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Rahman requested the international community to vote for Bangladesh in this important election. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the friendly people and government of Vietnam for maintaining deep cooperative relations with Bangladesh and expressed his determination to work together to further strengthen the bond of friendship between Bangladesh and Vietnam in the coming years.

In his speech as the chief guest, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam sincerely congratulated the people and government of Bangladesh for the remarkable achievements achieved in the past 55 years of independence. He said, “Bangladesh’s socio-economic development is exemplary for many countries in the world today. Leading the global garment industry, one of the world’s largest exporters of medicines, and contributing the most peacekeepers to UN peacekeeping operations, Bangladesh has emerged as an important power in the regional and international arena. With this development progress of Bangladesh, the cooperative relations between Vietnam and Bangladesh will be further enriched.”

He further said, “I firmly believe that the existing trade volume between the two countries will increase rapidly and will soon cross the target of two billion US dollars.”

After the chief guest’s speech, a cake was cut to mark the day and the guests were served a dinner consisting of traditional Bangladeshi food. It is worth noting that an exhibition showcasing the major exportable products of Bangladesh was also held along with the reception, which was highly appreciated by the guests present.
