Bangladesh Bank Governor Directs Cash Supply to All National Bank Branches and ATMs to Protect Depositors’ Interests

Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostakur Rahman has directed that the supply of necessary cash be ensured across all branches and ATM booths of National Bank PLC, so that all depositors can withdraw funds according to their needs starting October 15, 2026.

On Thursday (October 8, 2026) at 10:00 AM, National Bank PLC Chairman Professor Dr. Melita Mehjabeen and Acting Managing Director Jahidul Haque met with the Bangladesh Bank Governor. During the meeting, the Governor emphasized the importance of protecting depositors’ interests, maintaining public confidence in the banking system, and ensuring orderly banking operations.

The Governor noted that the recent liquidity situation at National Bank PLC and the issue of depositors withdrawing funds according to their needs had come to the attention of Bangladesh Bank. In light of this, he instructed that necessary measures be taken to ensure all depositors could withdraw their funds as required.

During the meeting, National Bank Chairman Professor Dr. Melita Mehjabeen stated that good governance had been successfully established at the bank due to various recent initiatives by Bangladesh Bank. Additionally, positive changes have been made to the bank’s top-level management to enhance its efficiency and operational capacity.

Bangladesh Bank placed special emphasis on protecting depositors’ interests and maintaining discipline in banking operations. As part of this effort, instructions were issued to ensure an adequate supply of cash at all National Bank branches and ATM booths to facilitate withdrawals by depositors according to their needs starting October 15.

Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Dr. Md. Kabir Ahammad, Md. Sarwar Hossain, and Md. Anisur Rahman were present during the meeting.
