A fruitful and constructive exchange of views was held between the European Union (EU) and the Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard in Chittagong. The meeting, held last week, focused on various aspects of maritime security, port security, environmental protection and future cooperation.
The meeting emphasized the important role of the Navy and Coast Guard in ensuring Bangladesh’s maritime security, preserving the marine environment and conducting search and rescue operations. At the same time, the European Union praised Bangladesh’s leadership in UN peacekeeping operations and the country’s active role in multilateral cooperation.

The EU delegation highlighted the ongoing cooperation to strengthen maritime domain awareness through the CRIMARIO (Critical Maritime Routes Indian Ocean) program and strengthen port security and maritime security under the Global Port Security Initiative to enhance Bangladesh’s maritime capacity.
The discussion highlighted the European Union as a growing global security partner and expressed optimism about the opportunities for deepening Bangladesh-EU cooperation in the blue economy, security and defense sectors.
At the end of the meeting, it was stated that the partnership between Bangladesh and the European Union is a strategic decision – built on international law, mutual respect and shared prosperity. Both sides expressed optimism that this partnership will be further expanded and strengthened in the future.
