Bangladesh Ambassador to Portugal M. Mahfuzul Haque presented his credentials to the President of Portugal

Bangladesh Ambassador to Portugal M. Mahfuzul Haque presented his credentials to His Excellency the President of Portugal, Prof. Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, in a grand ceremony held at the “Palacio da Belém” on 31 March 2025.

The Ambassador received the first guard of honor from the “Bangladesh Bhaban” with a motorcade and then at the Praça do Imperio (Jerónimos). Later, a guard of honor was presented to him by a smart group of the “Palacio da Belém” Presidential Guard Regiment, and the national anthems of Bangladesh and Portugal were played.

The President of Portugal was formally presented with his credentials by the Head of the Civil House, Fernando Ferrúcio de Mello, Diplomatic Advisor to the President, Maria Amelia Maio da Paiva, Foreign Secretary Dr. Nuno Sampaio and Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Francisco Ribeiro Telles.

After the presentation of the credentials, a courtesy call was held between the Portuguese President and the Ambassador of Bangladesh. Ambassador M. Mahfuzul Haque conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of Bangladesh, Md. Shahabuddin, and the Honorable Principal Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, and the Honorable Foreign Advisor, Md. Towhid Hossain to the President of Portugal. His Excellency the President of Portugal, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, conveyed his greetings to His Excellency the President of Bangladesh, Md. Shahabuddin, and the Honorable Principal Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, and the Foreign Affairs Advisor, Md. Towhid Hossain. The President highlighted the existing bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade and education, to further strengthen them. He appreciated the role of the Bangladeshi diaspora in Portugal in the economic development of Portugal. He assured the Ambassador of all kinds of cooperation and support during his assignment in Portugal.

The Ambassador highlighted the importance of the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Portugal and extended an invitation to the Portuguese President to visit Bangladesh on behalf of the Honorable Principal Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus. His Excellency the President of Portugal, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has also invited the Honorable Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, to visit Portugal.
