Diplomatic Desk:
Australia is looking for new ways to cooperate to accelerate Bangladesh’s sustainable energy transition, increase the capacity and stability of the power grid, and address the energy crisis. With this in mind, a high-level delegation from Australia’s Smart Energy Council recently visited Dhaka.
This clean energy mission, co-led by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), emphasizes strengthening cooperation in the renewable energy sector in the changing political and economic reality of Bangladesh.
During the visit, the delegation held meetings with various important institutions including Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA).
The meeting highlighted Australia’s advanced energy technology and experience. In particular, Australia’s capacity to implement energy storage, rooftop solar power and large-scale grid-based renewable energy projects was discussed.
The delegation believes that it is important to gradually shift Bangladesh’s current energy system, which is about 50 percent oil-dependent, to alternative and renewable energy. This will ensure energy security on the one hand, and on the other hand, reduce carbon emissions and enable environmentally friendly development.
According to experts, Australia’s technical assistance and investment can play an important role in further dynamizing Bangladesh’s renewable energy sector.
