Recently, the Association for Environment and Human Resource Development (AFEHRD) held its biennial general meeting. The meeting took place on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 4:00 PM, at the organization’s own office in Mirpur DOHS. Among the attendees were senior advisors of the organization, including senior journalist Masud Kamal, writer and columnist Dr. Zahed-ur-Rahman, Dr. Rehnuma Karim, President of Heroes for All, and members of the newly elected committee.
The Association for Environment and Human Resource Development (AFEHRD) is registered under the Department of Social Services (Registration No. Dh-04162, dated June 25, 1998) and the NGO Affairs Bureau, Prime Minister’s Office (Registration No. 1887, dated November 13, 2003). Since its inception, the organization has been actively involved in successful campaigns such as banning polythene shopping bags, prohibiting three-wheeled two-stroke engine baby taxis, and removing illegal structures from both ends of the Buriganga, Turag, and Gulshan lakes. AFEHRD has also worked on granting legal recognition to the third gender. Additionally, through initiatives like “Earth Theater” and “Pathik,” the organization has raised awareness about air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution, waste management, unplanned urbanization, and the importance of freeing gardens and playgrounds from illegal occupation. AFEHRD played a significant role in the World Sustainable Development Summit in South Africa. Particularly through its Environment and Health Program and “Spandan” Program, the organization has made notable contributions to environmental and human resource development, gaining widespread recognition in various media outlets.
Currently, the organization is focusing on human resource development by fostering talent among students and underprivileged communities, ensuring proper evaluation and support. In the biennial general meeting, the executive committee for the next two years was unanimously elected. Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad was elected as the President, Md. Yunusur Rahman as the Vice President, Dr. Farzana Alam as the General Secretary, and Md. Shahidur Rahman as the Treasurer. Hossain Fazle Elahi, Ferdousur Rahman, and Masum Billah Patwary were elected as executive members.
The meeting was presided over by Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, while Assistant Professor Masum Billah Patwary conducted the proceedings. With the President’s permission, Professor Dr. Farzana Alam delivered the Board of Thanks, formally concluding the session.
AFEHRD has expressed its commitment to further accelerate its efforts in environmental and human resource development in the coming two years.
