A special award has been received from the US state of Georgia as an international recognition for the commendable contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to UN peacekeeping missions. Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman SBP, OSP, SGP, PSC was presented with this award at a formal session of the Georgia State Senate on Tuesday (March 31, 2026).
Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp formally presented the resolution to the Army Chief. This resolution, supported by both Republicans and Democrats, formally recognizes and appreciates the important contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in UN peacekeeping missions worldwide.
Senator Sheikh Rahman of Bangladeshi origin played an important role in formulating this resolution.
Earlier in the morning of the same day, the Army Chief paid a courtesy call on Governor Brian P. Kemp at his office. The meeting discussed military cooperation and various issues of mutual interest. Later, the Bangladesh delegation led by him participated in the Senate session. During this time, he also met with Lieutenant Governor of Georgia Burt Jones.
It is worth noting that the Army Chief visited the United States on an official visit on March 28, 2026.
