Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that people of various religions have lived together peacefully in this country for a thousand years. He emphasized the need to ensure an environment where they can continue to live in similar harmony and peace for the next thousand years as well.
He noted that the government aims to build a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Bangladesh by bringing together all people—regardless of their religion, ethnicity, political affiliation, ideology, social class, or profession.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a celebratory event for the Sharadiya Durga Puja, held during his visit to the Rangpur Dharmasabha (Radha Govinda Temple) on Tuesday (October 20, 2026).

Urging everyone to work together to build the envisioned Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman highlighted that people of all faiths have stood united throughout the nation’s history—from the Great Liberation War and the movements to establish democratic rights, to the student-led mass uprising of 2024. He stressed that the future of Bangladesh must be built upon this enduring unity.
During the event, the Prime Minister announced that he had instructed the relevant State Minister to explore the possibility of providing financial assistance for the construction of a hostel-like facility behind the Rangpur Dharmasabha temple.
At the event, Bhabotosh Sarkar Bachchu, President of the temple committee, and General Secretary Khokon Sarkar presented a crest to the Prime Minister. In turn, the Prime Minister handed a check for 1 million (10 lakh) Taka to the temple authorities.
The event was moderated by Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development. Speakers included BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Minister of Culture Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Bijon Kanti Sarkar, BNP Assistant Organizing Secretary Jayanta Kumar Kundu, Members of Parliament Mahbubur Rahman Belal and Nipun Roy Chowdhury, as well as Partha Deb (of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal), Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas, and Swapan Kumar Bhattacharya (of the Rangpur Dharmasabha). The event was attended by Minister for Women and Children Affairs Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Farzana Sharmin, and Advisor to the Prime Minister Rehan Asif Asad, along with Members of Parliament from Rangpur and local leaders.
