Ambassador holds important meeting to further strengthen Bangladesh-Tunisia relations

With a view to further strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Bangladesh and Tunisia, the Honorable Ambassador of Bangladesh, Major General Abul Hasnat Muhammad Khairul Bashar, held several important meetings with the Tunisian Foreign Ministry and business organizations. At the same time, ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi citizens living in Tunisia was also a key topic of discussion.

The Ambassador first paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Foreign Minister of Tunisia, Mr. Mohammad Ali Al-Nafti. At this time, the Tunisian Foreign Minister extended his warm greetings to the Honorable Foreign Advisor of Bangladesh and praised the development progress of Bangladesh. Later, the Ambassador held a meeting with the Director General (Consular) of the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a request was made to facilitate the visa process for Bangladeshis working in Libya for medical treatment and travel through Tunisia. In addition, various issues related to the welfare of Bangladeshi citizens living in Tunisia were discussed.

The Ambassador then held a meeting with the Director General (Asia) of the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where various aspects of developing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Tunisia were discussed in detail. Both sides expressed optimism about signing a Memorandum of Understanding for bilateral discussions at the Foreign Ministry level. In addition, the Ambassador also met with the Chief of Protocol of the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and requested the Bangladesh Embassy to continue various cooperation, including banking and financial activities.

To further expand Bangladesh’s business relations in Tunisia, the Ambassador met with Mr. Samir Mazoul, President of the country’s largest business organization ‘Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts’ (UTICA Tunisia). Important business leaders including the Vice President of UTICA were present at the time. The meeting discussed the expansion of bilateral trade between the two countries, increasing cooperation between business organizations, and investment opportunities in various sectors including textiles, olive oil, and dates.

Emphasis was placed on identifying potential commercial areas by utilizing the geographical advantages of Africa and Asia. Both sides agreed to further accelerate mutual cooperation by organizing bilateral visits and formulating a work program. At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador formally invited Utica Tunisia to participate in the ‘Bangladesh Investment Summit-2025’ to be held in Dhaka.

These meetings, held as the Non-Resident Embassy of Bangladesh in Tunisia, are expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Bangladesh and Tunisia. In addition, they will play an important role in ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi citizens living in Tunisia and opening new doors for trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
