The Algerian Embassy in Bangladesh celebrated National Mujahid Day with due dignity on Wednesday (August 20, 2025). On the occasion of the day, Chargé d’Affaires Madame Basma Bentaleb officially hoisted the Algerian national flag at the embassy premises.

Diplomats and officials of the embassy, distinguished guests, business leaders, media personnel and representatives of Bangladeshi civil society were present at the event.

National Mujahid Day is celebrated to commemorate two historical events in the Algerian independence struggle – the North Constantine Uprising on August 20, 1955 and the Summam Conference on August 20, 1956.

In her keynote speech, Madame Basma Bentaleb paid deep tribute to the martyrs and mujahids in Algeria’s liberation struggle. He said, “The North Constantine Uprising of 1955 and the Summa Conference of 1956 are immortal in the history of our revolution. They are the two pillars of freedom – resistance built on blood and sacrifice, and the foundation of visionary leadership and organization.”

He noted that the tragic bloodshed of the Constantine Uprising further strengthened the Algerian struggle for freedom. On the other hand, the Summa Conference organized the revolution and provided political and military guidance, which later led to the formation of the Provisional Government of Algeria.

He said, “Today we remember the sacrifices of the Mujahideen. May their ideals – freedom, unity and justice – strengthen our commitment anew. Their courage and vision will forever inspire us on our path.”

At the end of the program, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of Algeria. Later, a special cultural program highlighting Algerian culture and traditions was performed.
The Algerian Embassy in Bangladesh expressed its sincere gratitude to all the guests and friends of Algeria who participated in this event.
