Mahfuz Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan have resigned from the posts of Advisers to the Interim Government. A source in the Office of the Chief Adviser confirmed on Wednesday (December 10, 2025) evening that they have submitted their resignations.
Ever since the possible time of the schedule announcement was announced, there have been discussions that Local Government Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud and Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuz Alam will announce their resignations soon. Because, both of them will participate in the upcoming National Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, after the news that the Election Commission (EC) may announce the schedule of the 13th National Assembly elections tomorrow, Thursday, rumors that the two advisers will resign intensified.
At around 3:30 pm, Local Government Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud came to the Secretariat for a press conference regarding participation in the elections and resignation.
At the press conference, Asif Mahmud highlighted various initiatives and developments under his leadership. At the end, he asked questions from journalists. When asked about his resignation and participation in the upcoming 13th national election, Asif Mahmud said that he will participate in the election. However, the office of the Chief Advisor will inform about his resignation. When asked about which party he will take the nomination, he said that he will inform later.
It is worth noting that Asif Mahmud was in charge of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. On the other hand, Mahfuz Alam was in charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
