Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, PPM-Services inspected the ongoing ‘Safe Pedestrian Crossing Pilot Project’ under the Dhaka Road Traffic Safety Project (DRSP).
Today, Thursday (April 24, 2025), he inspected the pilot project located in front of Mirpur University College, opposite the National Heart Foundation, in Mirpur-2.

This pilot program, conducted in collaboration with the Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), will run from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM every day (except holidays) until May 8, 2025 at the pedestrian crossing located in front of the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Mirpur University College in Mirpur.


Under this project, experimental signal lights have been installed at zebra crossings in Mirpur College area of Traffic Mirpur Division for safe pedestrian crossing.
Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar, PPM-Services visited the project area today and spoke to JICA representatives, media and pedestrians.

In response to questions from journalists present at the time, the Additional Police Commissioner said that JICA and DMP’s Traffic Division are working together to make the traffic system in Dhaka Metropolitan City safer. This project has been taken up to ensure safe pedestrian crossing and reduce traffic congestion through the use of experimental signal lights. If this experimental project is successful, all important crossings in Dhaka will be brought under the ambit of modern signal lights, which will result in a radical change in the traffic system, he expressed hope.
During the inspection, Deputy Police Commissioner of Traffic-Mirpur Division Gautam Kumar Biswas, officials of Traffic Mirpur Division and JICA representatives were present.
