Action against police if political party leaders and activists are given illegal benefits: Home Affairs Advisor

Police will be taken against those who are given illegal benefits by political party leaders and activists, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) has said.

The advisor made this statement while briefing reporters after the meeting of the Law and Order Core Committee at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (November 04, 2025) afternoon.

The meeting discussed the overall law and order situation in the country, including drug prevention, the upcoming National Assembly elections, the border situation, and steps taken to recover illegal weapons.

In response to a question from reporters on what action will be taken against any party if the police give special benefits to them in the elections, the advisor said that an ‘Electoral Inquiry Committee’ has been formed for this year’s National Assembly elections. If anyone is negligent in performing his duties in the elections, he will be brought under the law immediately. He said that earlier, a GD was filed in this case. But this time, it will be brought under the law immediately. He instructed the police and other concerned parties to cooperate in the event in a fair, free and festive atmosphere for the national election.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that the e-gate of Hazrat Shahjalal (R.) International Airport has been opened. Regarding provocative statements made on social media, the advisor said that most of the times these statements are not true. But the reports of journalists are usually true. He requested journalists to prepare accurate and investigative reports to counter provocative statements on social media.
