A group of Japanese businessmen recently visited Bangladesh under JICA initiative to explore potential business investment opportunities in waste management and water crisis in Bangladesh.
As part of the visit, the delegation visited various important infrastructures in the country. These include secondary transfer stations (STS), landfill sites, sewage treatment plants, groundwater treatment systems and several local institutions working in related sectors.
The Japanese representatives said that the visit was very fruitful for them. One of them said, “I saw everything with my own eyes and understood where it is possible to bring about improvements by applying our technology.”
Another commented, “I learned a lot of important information by talking directly to stakeholders from both the government and private sectors.”
According to the delegation, they were able to visit places that are usually not possible to visit during this visit and had direct discussions with policymakers and relevant people there.
They also said, “We have gained a real understanding of the thinking of the Bangladeshi people and the country’s market potential. This visit will be helpful in planning our future work in Bangladesh.”
Discussions are currently underway on how Japan’s advanced technology and investment can play an effective role in environmental development and economic progress in Bangladesh.
Based on the experience of the visit and discussions, the delegation said, “We are eager to work together with local authorities and institutions to ensure clean, healthy cities and better water supply.”
The Japan-Bangladesh partnership has opened up new possibilities through this visit. Representatives from both countries expressed optimism that this cooperation will bring long-term benefits to the general public of Bangladesh.
