Canada’s Indo-Pacific Deputy Minister Visits Bangladesh to Deepen Strategic Ties

Global Affairs Canada’s Assistant Deputy Minister for Indo-Pacific Affairs, Mr. Weldon Epps, is on his first official visit to Bangladesh. The visit reaffirms the commitment to further strengthen the strategic relationship and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada.

In 2024, bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Canada reached US$3.27 billion (approximately Tk 27,537 crore). In the context of this strong trade relationship, Mr. Epps held important meetings with Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary, Ambassador Asad Alam Siam, and Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin. In the meeting, both sides discussed enhancing cooperation in new sectors including climate-resilient agriculture, clean technology, and foreign direct investment.
