All those involved in the brutal murder of a scrap dealer in Mitford in the capital have been brought under the law, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.).
The advisor made this statement while briefing reporters after visiting three Bangladesh Police institutions located in the Mill Barracks of Old Dhaka in the capital on Saturday (July 12, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that the police is taking immediate action not only in Mitford but also in such incidents that have occurred across the country. He said, however, the Mitford incident is very sad. Such an incident can never be expected in a civilized country. Five people responsible for the incident have already been arrested. He also said that two people were arrested from the scene immediately after the incident on Wednesday evening. Yesterday afternoon, RAB arrested two people with weapons. Moreover, one person was arrested last night as well. In total, five people have been arrested in this incident so far. The DB team is also working on this matter.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said, we have become very intolerant as a nation. We all have to reduce this intolerance together. It is the responsibility of all of us. He said, along with the law enforcement agencies, the policy makers of the society, guardians, teachers, doctors, all have to work together on this issue. In short, we have to increase social awareness on this issue. The advisor said, we request everyone not to take the law into their own hands. If any incident occurs, it should be reported to the law enforcement agencies. The law enforcement agencies will take appropriate action.
In response to a question from journalists about why the law enforcement agencies are not being strict, the advisor said, if the law enforcement agencies are not strict, how were the five arrested? He said, the woman who made the telephone call yesterday in the incident of bringing back the Kathmandu-bound flight has been arrested. The person who advised her has also been brought under the law. The culprits in the Chandpur incident have also been brought under the law. He said, this situation of the law enforcement agencies is not at all indifference. Sometimes there may be a little delay in one or two places for some reason. However, the law enforcement agencies are taking action immediately in all these incidents.
During the briefing, IGP Baharul Alam BPM, SB Pradhan and Additional IGP of Police Md. Golam Rasul, DIG of Dhaka Range Rezaul Karim Mallick and others were present.
Earlier, the advisor delivered a speech as the chief guest at a special welfare meeting organized by Dhaka District Police Line and listened to the various problems of the forces present and instructed the concerned to take necessary measures to resolve them.
