Police have found evidence of business conflict in the initial investigation of the murder in Mitford: DMP

Jasim Uddin, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Lalbagh Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that the initial investigation of the recent murder in Mitford area of the capital has found evidence of business conflict. No extortion was found behind the murder of businessman Lal Chand Sohag in this incident.

He said that there had been a conflict in the area over the scrap metal business for a long time. There is a scrap metal shop at the scene and a dispute arose between the two parties over who would do business there. Although they ran the business together for a while, later a dispute arose over financial transactions and control. Jasim Uddin made this statement at a press conference at the DMP’s media center today.

He also said that after analyzing the CCTV footage of the scene, mobile videos and statements of eyewitnesses, 5 people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder. A drive is underway to arrest the remaining accused. The political identities of those involved in the incident have not yet been confirmed.

The arrested are Mahmudul Hasan Mohin (41), Alamgir (28), Monir alias Chhoto Monir (25), Titon Gazi (32) and Tarique Rahman Robin (22).

On July 9, 39-year-old scrap dealer Lal Chand alias Sohag was brutally murdered by being hacked, beaten and stoned near the gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital. The deceased Sohag is the son of Yusuf Ali Howlader of Purba Namabari village in Keraniganj. He had been running a scrap business in Rani Ghosh Lane in Old Dhaka for a long time.
