Opener Aiden Markram’s brilliant century helped South Africa win the third ICC Test Championship title. On the fourth day of the championship final, South Africa defeated the last champion Australia by 5 wickets.
With this victory, South Africa finally got the title of world champion next to their name. Because the championship tournament of the Test format, like ODI and T20, is considered a World Cup. So far, South Africa has not been able to win the ODI or T20 World Cup title. They have played the semi-finals five times in ODIs and the final once in T20.
In addition, South Africa has won the title of any ICC event since 1998. The last time the Proteas won the ICC Knock-Out Trophy (now called the Champions Trophy) held in Dhaka in 1998. After that, they were given the label of ‘Chokar’ for not winning any ICC title. Finally, after 27 years, Temba Bavuma’s team was able to erase the word ‘Chokar’.
