Sacrificial animal waste in Dhaka city corporation areas will be removed within 12hrs: Home adviser

Home affairs adviser Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) has said that sacrificial animal waste will be removed within 12 hours of the end of the sacrifice.

The adviser made this statement while briefing journalists after a meeting on the proper management of sacrificial animal markets and raw hides and a meeting of the core committee on law and order on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday (May 25, 2025) afternoon.

The adviser said that the sacrifice takes place for three days during the Eid-ul-Azha. Of these, about 90-95 percent of the cows or sacrificial animals are sacrificed on the first day. The remaining 5-10 percent are sacrificed on the remaining two days. In order to alleviate the suffering of the people and expedite waste management, all the waste of the sacrifice will be removed within 12 hours of the end of the sacrifice. The administrators and CEOs of the two city corporations have promised the meeting in this regard. All preparations have been made for this.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said, it was not possible to reduce the yield of the cattle market this year, 5 percent yield is too much. However, we are working so that the yield does not exceed 3 percent from next year. He said, this time 20 cattle markets are being arranged in the two city corporations of Dhaka. At least 70 Ansar members will be deployed at each market to maintain security in these markets. He further said, a veterinarian has been arranged at the cattle market so that no sick cows or animals can be sold. Moreover, many people fall ill after coming to the cattle market, so arrangements are being made for a doctor. Responsible persons deployed at each market will make arrangements for this. The advisor said that the sacrificial animal carts cannot be taken out on the road under any circumstances. For this, each market should have its own arrangements and the place should be far away from the road.

The advisor also said that due to the lack of adequate storage facilities, many skins are wasted every year. He said, we want the sellers to get a fair price for the skin. A fair price for the skin is the right of the poor. The skins are usually given to various poor people, orphanages, and madrasas. But they do not get a fair price for it. Arrangements have been made so that they get a fair price for the skin.

Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on the Ministry of Home Affairs Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation Mohammad Ejaz, and others were present during the briefing.
