Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives of the interim government, said that providing cyber security is one of the main responsibilities of the interim government and the government is committed to this.
The advisor said this while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized to celebrate ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2025’ at the BTRC building in Agargaon, Dhaka on Saturday (May 17, 2025).
At the time, the advisor said that the ‘Cyber Security Ordinance’ has recognized the internet as a civil right. Therefore, the price should be reduced reasonably so that people from all walks of life can use the internet. He said that the government has reduced the price at the IIG level, the benefits of which will be available to consumers in one to two months. In addition, the use of the internet has increased in the education sector, but Asif Mahmud emphasized the need to further increase its use in other sectors including agriculture and health.
Special guests included Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, Mahbuba Farzana, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Sheesh Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology Division. BTRC Chairman and other concerned persons were present at the event.
