Russian Ambassador called on Home Affairs Adviser

The Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Mantitsky met with Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) on Thursday (August 29, 2024) in his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

Agriculture and food security and cyber security and modernization and capacity building of forensic labs were discussed during the meeting.

In the meeting, the adviser said that Russia is one of the countries that supply wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh. Wheat and fertilizers are imported from Russia on G2G basis. Bangladesh has already paid for the import of 2.6 million tonnes of wheat. Due to the prevailing economic conditions including floods, the payment of the last shipment of imported wheat was not possible. Adviser requested the ambassador to continue the supply (export) of wheat and fertilizer to Bangladesh in the overall view. The ambassador requested the Bangladesh government to notify Russia in writing on this matter. and assured consideration in that case.

In the meeting, the embassy informed that Russia will supply 30 thousand metric tons or one ship of potash fertilizer to Bangladesh for free. The advisor expressed sincere thanks to Russia for this and directed the concerned to start the process as soon as possible. He also requested the ambassador to supply one ship of wheat to Bangladesh free of charge along with fertilizer. The adviser said that ensuring food security in the current flood situation is a big challenge for the government. We are working tirelessly to achieve this goal.

The ambassador called for the existing cooperation between the two countries to be taken one step further in the modernization and capacity building of the cyber security and forensic labs of Bangladesh. The adviser expressed his agreement and said that cooperation in this sector will be increased in the future.

Counselors of the Russian Embassy in Dhaka, Anton Chernov and Vladimir Mochalov, representatives of the embassy and senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs were present in the meeting.
